Saffron project

SAFFRON project is funded by the EU with the Interreg III C programme. It concerns different Institutions of Castilla- La Mancha (Spain), Western Macedonia (Greece) and Sardinia (Italy) aiming to promote cultivation and consumption of saffron grown in Europe and to diffuse European Saffron White Book.

Saffron plant, European production, vegetative cycle and transformation in spice. And now, uses, curiosities and recipes. A section full of information for those interested in saffron crop and its diffusion in Europe.

Saffron cultivation

This section is destinated to those persons who are interested in planting saffron, in small or large scale. Here, you'll find simple instructions to achieve good results in the crop. These suggestions are given by agronomic engineers who are experts in saffron and consequently, they know the best technical condictions to develop the crop.

Saffron White Book

The 28th of March of 2007 the White Book of the European Saffron Sector was presented in Kozani (Greece). This book collect the results obtained during the INTERREG IIIC project and propose an horizon for the European Saffron Sector in the next years.

The 10th of November of 2006 European Saffron White Book was presented in San Gavino Monreale (Sardinia). This conference received a large audience: representants of Saffron italian Designations of Origin, regional politicians, technicians and saffron farmers among others.

Saffron Final meeting in Albacete

The 22nd March 2007 several technicians and politicians of Albacete (Spain), West Macedonia (Greece) and Sardinia (Italy) closed the project with a official conference.

Designation of Origin (DO) for the Sardinia Saffron

The proposal of the Designation of origin (Zafferano di Sardegna" has been published in the Official Journal of the Italian Republic n. 277 the 28.11.2005.

Saffron Week in Albacete

Saffron week in Albacete organised by the University of Castilla- La Mancha has finished succesfully. Among the events which took place, the summer course about saffron spice was the most important one.

Official opening of the sith "salone del gusto"

Italian and spanish saffron in the "Salone del gusto" This year the meeting "Terra madre"a worldwide meeting about food comunities was celebrated in Tourin from 26th to 30th October 2006.
